Beth has been announced for the Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 game via IGN.com, which marks her video game debut, but in all honesty, i think that’s the most interesting thing about this whole thing. there’s not much to write home about. Its beyond obvious that the game creators don’t care about the diva’s in the game. I think it was last year where they didn’t even have the women’s title in the game at all and the diva’s were relegated to flirting with the male wrestlers in Season mode.
So I suppose I should critique Beth in the game. Firstly just looking at her, she is WAY too skinny, the character doesn’t have the muscle definition that Beth actually has, but her hair looks pretty cool. Its pretty lame that they have Beth’s skirt attire since she hasn’t worn it since JANURARY, i mean COME ON! That was seven months ago, I’m sure they hadn’t done attire then, or even Beth’s character, most likely. The entrance is just horrible, its the typical diva entrance from the video game, the only thing they got right was Beth sitting on the turnbuckle, but she doesn’t even do her signature pose, which is something that she’s done since winning the Title at No Mercy 2007. Now lets get onto the stats that Beth has been given. Her strength is 68 & yes that is out of a possible 100. Seriously! WTF?! If there is any other diva on the game with strength points anywhere near Beth’s I would not be happy. The whole of the stats is a joke, her Charaisma is only 67, but yet her speed is 82. Beth isn’t exactly known for running around the ring like Rey Mysterio.
Finally lets talk about her finishers. Firstly the Northern Lights Driver, which i believe is a version of her old cradle suplex finisher, i’m not up on the names of some moves, lol. Secondly the Michinoku Driver Pin, which was Beth finisher up until she returned to WWE the second time around in 2007, she hasn’t used it as a finisher since. While this was one of my favourite finishing moves from her, why is it in her moveset when she has only used it on WWE television twice …. in 2006! I would have to say all in all Beth’s character in this game is a Fail. Bad game developers!
I’m a huge gamer, and I have bought every version of The WWE Smackdown series, going way back to the original PS1 game. So I suppose I know what I’m on about, but the past few years THQ have added more consoles to their arsenal, and the fans have suffered because I don’t think I have enjoyed the Smackdown Vs. Raw series for the past two years, and by the looks of it, I doubt I will like this one.
As soon as i can find it, i will post gameplay from the other systems.
