Preview: Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix (Women’s Championship)
By Greg Adkins
December 16, 2007
Mickie James has been on the roll of her career lately, and she hopes to use that momentum to overcome a rather sizable speed bump known as Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix.
The Glamazon enters the Women’s Championship Match having intimidated nearly every Diva on the roster by flaunting her unique size and strength advantage. But for her part, Mickie, a former Women’s Champion, continues to ride a wave of momentum that has carried her through to the title opportunity with a win recently against Melina on Raw.
Having tasted championship gold three times before, Mickie could certainly draw on her experience as a former Women’s Champion to formulate a plan of attack that will emphasize her many strengths. She may need to rely heavily on the stamina and quickness that she’s showcased the past several weeks to notch an upset over the Glamazon.
It must be said, however, that the Glamazon will not go gently. The self-described “perfect combination of strength and beauty” has leveled anyone who has dared challenge her rule. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, however, the fact remains that Phoenix is indeed vulnerable. One need only look to her match at Unforgiven against Candice Michelle to recall how the former Women’s Champion surprised Phoenix with a crucifix roll-up to earn the three-count.
The question remains, can Mickie keep her winning streak alive even against the force of Phoenix? Or will the Glamazon lay yet another Diva to waste?

The Glamazon to captain team in survivor series match
Preview: 10 Divas Tag Team Match
November 18, 2007
Practically no Diva in WWE can compare to the Glamazon, Beth Phoenix. The Women’s Champion says she is the epitome of beauty, class and athleticism and has proven it since she burst on the scene earlier this year. She settles for nothing less than perfection and will expect nothing less from her team when she leads Jillian Hall, Melina, Victoria & Layla into an interpromotional 10 Divas Tag Team Match against Mickie James, Maria, Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool and Kelly Kelly at Survivor Series.
The Glamazon is not known to work well with others - she doesn’t need to - but she has one thing in common with her fellow Divas from Raw, SmackDown, and ECW: They all have a chip on their beautiful shoulders.
Nevertheless, there will be some personal issues that may highlight this interpromotional match involving the Divas from Raw, SmackDown, and ECW. Kelly Kelly wants to lay her claws into her former Extreme Exposé teammate Layla, who, along with The Miz, has made her life a living hell in ECW. Michelle McCool and Victoria have been at each other’s throats for months on SmackDown.
The Divas will add some sugar and spice, and everything nice at Survivor Series. Don’t miss what happens at Survivor Series this Sunday, Nov. 18, only on pay-per-view at 8/7 CT.

Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix (Women’s Championship Match)
Last month at Unforgiven, Beth Phoenix thought she had the Women’s Championship won. Heavily favored going into her title match with Candice Michelle, the powerful Glamazon dominated the Women’s Champion. But just as Candice appeared to be on the verge of defeat, she shocked Beth - and many critics - by rolling up her powerful challenger and eking out a three-count.
At No Mercy, Candice and Beth will battle again for the Women’s Championship, and both will have something to prove.
Beth Phoenix was embarrassed by her defeat at Unforgiven. The Women’s Division had not seen a Diva of Beth’s strength, skill and beauty in many years. The Glamazon, along with many experts, believed that she would easily woman-handle Candice for the Women’s Championship. However, she underestimated Candice and the Women’s Champion left her red-faced with rage.
The self-proclaimed “uber-Diva” learned the same valuable lesson that she and other Divas and some critics have had to digest this year: Candice Michelle is the real deal, not a paper champion, and has many ways of defeating her opponents. Since Unforgiven, Beth has pinned Candice during a Mixed Tag Team Match on Raw and has appeared more focused and hungrier than ever. In her mind, she has to defeat the Women’s Champion this time at No Mercy, or she may be dismissed as just a pretty, albeit muscular, face who can’t win under pressure.
For Women’s Champion Candice Michelle, No Mercy represents a chance to silence some skeptics who believe she got lucky the first time. She has dealt with narrow-minded so-called “experts” all year who easily dismiss her transition from cover girl to Women’s Champion. But skepticism only fuels Candice. She has always believed in herself when no one else does. That never-say-die attitude brought her the Women’s Championship and enabled her to defeat Beth Phoenix last month. And it may bring her victory again at No Mercy.
It’s the Glamazon versus the Women’s Champion, Part II at No Mercy - and both have a lot to prove. Who is the true uber-Diva? Who will leave No Mercy with gold around her beautiful waist? The only way to find out is to check out No Mercy, live and only on pay-per-view, on Sunday, October 7 at 8/7 CT.

Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix (Women’s Championship Match)
Beth Phoenix believes she is a “Glamazon” - an uber-Diva, the perfect blend of beauty, athleticism, power, intelligence and class. She believes she is what every WWE Diva aspires to be, but could never be. It’s been quite some time since WWE has seen a woman who blends brute strength, ring acumen and sex appeal as well as Beth Phoenix.
When the Glamazon burst back on the scene earlier this summer, many observers believed it was only a matter of time before she challenged for the Women’s Championship. And after eliminating 11 other competitors in an all Divas Battle Royal at SummerSlam, Beth will get an opportunity at Women’s Champion Candice Michelle at Unforgiven.
Candice faces the most dangerous threat to her championship reign to date in the Glamazon. Beth is not only WWE’s strongest Diva, but she is hungry and seems to take delight in hurting her opponents. Just ask poor Maria. Beth woman-handled the Raw interviewer for two straight weeks in the ring. She would have inflicted more damage on Maria if Candice hadn’t intervened. But even the Women’s Champion seemed in awe and appeared wary of a physical confrontation with the much-larger Beth Phoenix. Was Candice fearful, or was she just being cautious and avoiding possible injury before their showdown at Unforgiven?
Candice will not be able to match Beth’s power, so she may have to rely on her speed, smarts and pure guts. She is constantly adding new moves to her repertoire and is determined to win more and more respect as Women’s Champion. Candice loves being Women’s Champion, and a victory over Beth Phoenix would cement her hold on the title and silence close-minded critics who still see her as only eye candy.
Still, Beth believes the Women’s Championship is her destiny. She is trying to make up for lost time; she first debuted on Raw in 2006, but was sidelined for more than a year with an injury. Beth believes that Candice pales in comparison to her and that only a Glamazon should hold the Women’s Championship.
But could the Glamazon’s arrogance lead to overconfidence at Unforgiven? Other Divas have underestimated Candice and wound up with their shoulders pinned to the mat. Ultimately, the battle between these two elite Divas may be decided by who is hungrier and wants the Women’s Championship more. Right now, it’s too close to call.
The Biggest Party of the Summer wouldn’t be complete without the beautiful WWE Divas. Recognizing the appeal of a scintillating showdown, Raw General Manager William Regal conferred with his colleagues from SmackDown and ECW and arranged for a Battle Royal among all WWE Divas at SummerSlam. The winner of the match will get an opportunity to challenge Candice Michelle for the Women’s Championship.
The Battle Royal could represent a big break for newcomers like Beth Phoenix, who is anxious to make an impact in WWE and Divas like Jillian, Michelle McCool, or the ladies of Extreme Exposé, who have not had an opportunity at the Women’s Championship. The match also signifies the prospect of redemption for former Women’s Champions such as Melina, Victoria and Mickie James.
Who will win the Battle Royal and have a chance at taking on Women’s Champion Candice Michelle? There’s only one way to find out - check out SummerSlam this Sunday live on pay-per-view at 8/7 CT.
Beth is mentioned in the preview for Candice Michelle vs. Melina at the Great American Bash Pay Per View on WWE.com.
Preview: Women’s Championship Match
After shocking the world at Vengeance: Night of Champions by winning the Women’s Championship, Candice Michelle will defend her title against former champion Melina at The Great American Bash.
The match was announced on the July 9 Raw, as Melina informed Candice that she would invoke her rematch clause on July 22, live on pay-per-view. That same night, Melina excused herself from a tag team match, bringing in good friend Beth Phoenix to take her place. Candice & Mickie James defeated Phoenix & Jillian, but the champion didn’t come away unscathed; following the bout, the trio of Melina, Jillian and Phoenix gave her a beating until James ran them off.
Candice hopes to continue to prove that her run with the gold is one that will last, while the A-list Diva is looking to return to the top. The vengeful Melina will stop at nothing to take back what she believes to be hers, but lately Candice Michelle has been as hot in the ring as she always has been out of it. Until she is dethroned, she is the queen of WWE, much to the disgust of the former champion Melina. Can the A-list Diva reclaim her throne in San Jose, Calif., or will the Women’s Championship continue to be Candy-coated after The Bash?
