In a display of dominance, Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix defeated Candice Michelle with a Glam Slam to retain her gold. Ever since The Glamazon captured the title from Mickie James at SummerSlam, she has dominated both her opponents and the opponents of her boyfriend, Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella.
Tonight, Marella intervened, preventing a potential pinfall. But, he paid for it with a hard-hitting kick from Candice. Although Marella’s help allowed Phoenix to escape the near pinfall, it proved to be a distraction to The Glamazon. But, not for long. As the match continued, The Glamazon mounted an offense that Candice could not stop.

Better late than never, it’s time for the Beth Unlimited Pay Per View Preview & Poll!
This Sunday, Beth will take on Candice Michelle in a one on one contest for Beth’s women’s championship. Of course this feud goes very far back. Over a year back.
At Summerslam 2007, Beth won a diva’s battle royal, to earn herself the number one contendership to the women’s championship, held by Candice Michelle. Beth had already been a thorn in Candice’s side for a month, when she returned to WWE helping her friends Melina & Jillian, although in a losing effort to Candice and Mickie James. Beth stayed by Melina’s side during her attempt to regain the Women’s Championship from Candice Michelle.
After destroying Maria twice, Beth made her feelings known that she would be cashing in her number one contendership at the next PPV. The following few weeks, Beth made her presence known to Candice, sitting ringside during her matches, and phyisically intimidating the champion. At Unforgiven, Beth phyisically dominated Candice, but lost the match after Candice caught her with a quick roll up. Beth quickly regained her momentum, pinning Candice in a tag team match, she continued her path of destruction, letting everyone know that she would be the next women’s champion. Beth, true to her word, defeated Candice at the next pay per view, No Mercy. Candice was quick to invoke her re-match clause, in a two out of three falls match. Beth went on to win the match two falls to zero, after Candice suffered an unfortunate clavicle injury that would keep her out of action for four months.
Candice returned to WWE four months later, distracting Beth long enough for Maria to get a quick roll up victory. It was soon announced that Candice & Maria would team at Wrestlemania to take on Beth & Melina in a tag team match. Candice was unfortunate enough to re-injure her clavicle during a match prior to Wrestlemania, meaning she would be out of action a further six months.
Upon Candice’s return, she was able to pick up a pinfall victory over Beth in tag team action, and this victory apparently made her the number one contender to Beth’s title. Beth & Candice carefully watched each other over the next few weeks, until last Monday when Beth picked up a victory in tag action against Candice & Kelly Kelly.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, I have just spent more time writing this PPV preview than WWE’s creative team spent on booking this feud over the past month or so, unfortunately.
TRIVIA TIME!
Beth is 1-0 at No Mercy, while Candice Michelle is 0-1 at this Pay Per View
Beth Phoenix won her first WWE women’s championship match at the 2007 No Mercy PPV, ironically from Candice Michelle.
Back again for another Pay Per View preview. Remember i did this for the One Night Stand Pay Per View, it was a huge sucess so i decided to do it for Summerslam too! Keep reading on for the match preview and vote in the poll. Be sure to give your thoughts in the comments!
Sunday is WWE’s annual Summerslam Pay Per View, and things are about to get a little bit more interesting in the Women’s and intercontinental divisions when both titles will be defended in a intergender tag team match, where the winning team takes the titles. While WWE has still been a little hazy on how things will square off, I am led to believe that the winning woman will take the Women’s championship, and the male the Intercontinental championship.
Next Monday Night on Raw, WWE will hold their (usually) annual WWE Draft, and there has been speculation on who will get drafted to a different brand, especially in the comments on this site, the fact that Beth may get drafted. There are obviously pro’s and con’s to a switch or staying on Raw, in this post i will take a look at these pro’s and con’s for Beth on each brand, and under the cut is a poll for you to vote on what you think!
I thought it time we had a little Poll & Preview for tonights PPV, this may be something i will decide to do more often depending on the response, feel free to discuss the PPV and the Poll in the comments :).
Tonight WWE hosts their annual One Night Stand Pay Per View, where every match is extreme~!. Beth Phoenix & Melina will do battle in this match in the first ever Women’s I Quit match. Beth & Melina both became friendly ever since Beth’s re-debut in WWE when Beth substituted for Melina (who was “injured”) in a tag match. They tagged together many times on WWE Raw, but they alliance was brought to the forefront of the storylines when they teamed together against Ashley & Maria at Wrestlemania in the Bunnymania match. Proving they could work together as a unit, they dismantled Maria & Ashley & went on to win the match.
Things soon started to fall apart for the duo after this, Beth soon lost her prized championship to Mickie James on Raw, which set up a huge 12 woman tag match at Backlash, Team Glamazon won the match, but lost the re-match the next night. The following week, Beth had a chance to regain her belt in a Lumber Jill match. Melina, wanting to help Beth, tries to hit Mickie with her boot, but misses and hits Beth, allowing Mickie to retain, obviously upsetting the Glamazon.
The following week a tag match was made, Melina & Beth vs. Mickie & Maria. At one point, Melina accidentally knocked Beth off the apron, causing Beth to get angry and walk away from the match. Later Beth explained that Melina cost her the belt the previous week, and how she knows that it is easier to beat Mickie than herself. Melina, tried showing Beth her fire, hitting her with forearms, only for Beth to grab her and slam her into the nearby lockers, and having to be restrained by referees.
At Judgment Day, their feud escalated, when Beth told Melina she didn’t belong in “her ring”. Melina took the fall in the match after Beth was on the outside recovering from her massive feat of strength holding both Mickie & Melina on her shoulders, and Melina’s subsequent neckbreaker. The following week, Beth defeated Maria with ease, debuting a new submission finisher, The Glam Slam. Following the match, Melina jumped Beth hitting her with her boot, but Beth over-powered her throwing her down to the hard metal ramp. The following week, before Melina defeated her friend Jillian (who said Melina has “No Chance” against Beth Phoenix) an I Quit match was announced between the two.
Both these ladies have suitable maneuvers to make the other scream I Quit, Beth has the brute force to keep Melina down, while Melina has the speed to be able to get round The Glamazon’s feats of strength. Who do you think will prevail at One Night Stand?
Little bit of Trivia
Did you know the last time there was a women’s singles match at a PPV that didn’t have the Women’s championship on the line was Judgment Day 2006? Jillian Hall was victorious over Melina.
Beth Phoenix is making her One Night Stand PPV debut
Melina is 0-1 at One Night Stand, having lost to Candice Michelle, in the travesty of a match last year. Aren’t we all glad that there no pudding to be seen on this show?
