Getting to know the Glamazon

Mini-bio: Beth always wanted to be a pro-wrestler, her for the sport led her to join her high school wrestling team, she became the first female varsity wrestler in her school's history. During college she continued wrestling, until she began training with the All Knighters. She later made her pro-wrestling debut in 2000 taking on Alexis Laree. Beth wrestled throughout America and Canada, and in 2003 relocated to Louisville (OVW). In October 2005 Beth received a WWE developmental contract. In May 2006 Beth debuted on WWE Raw attacking Mickie James, but just 5 weeks later, Beth broke her jaw during a match with Victoria. After over a year of waiting in OVW, Beth finally returned to Raw on July 9th 2007, teaming with Melina and Jillian. At Summerslam 2007 Beth earned a title shot against Candice Michelle, and despite a loss at Unforgiven, beth defeated Candice for the title at No Mercy.

The unlikely lovebirds prevailed to win the gold at the Biggest Blockbuster of the Summer. After defeating Kofi Kingston & Mickie James in the Winners Take All Match at SummerSlam, Santino Marella is the new Intercontinental Champion and Beth Phoenix is the new Women’s Champion.

When Raw General Manager Mike Adamle made the “Adamle Original” match, the rules stated the titles would go to the team getting the pinfall or submission. After James hit Marella with a brutal DDT, The Glamazon retaliated and pinned the Diva for the intergender tag team win. Phoenix is now a two-time Women’s Champion, and Marella is a two-time holder of the Intercontinental Title.

WOMEN’S MATCH: SERENA vs. WWE’S BETH PHOENIX

ODB appeared on video before the match to say that she couldn’t make it to the show that night. As fans may recall, Serena agreed to a match against a “contender for the Women’s Championship Belt” that ODB has if ODB won her match the previous week. Serena had no way of knowing that ODB was going to cheat to win her match last week against office intern Jenny Mae, nor that ODB planned for Serena to go up against WWE Superstar and well-known former OVW Superstar Beth Phoenix this week! A lockup between the former and new OVW Superstars led to Serena taking down Beth and the two breaking apart to study the other. Beth took down Serena next and then again, going into a headlock. The two trade hiptosses and then break again, with Beth wanting a handshake to show her admitted respect for Serena’s moves in the ring. This was only to sucker Serena into a short-arm clothesline, however, and Beth happily went about her work hitting, elbowing and choking Serena before ramming Serena into a corner a couple of times. After a couple of two-count falls by Phoenix, Serena came back with an elbow to the gut and then the head, followed by a couple of clotheslines. Running at each other, Phoenix and Serena managed to pull each other down into facebusters that had them both crawling on the mat. Phoenix tried to pick Serena up, yet Serena was able to scramble away and then spear Phoenix hard. ODB, who apparently was able to see the match from wherever she was, screamed for Charles “The Hammer” Evans to come out, and make SURE that Phoenix won. Serena turned her attention to the advancing Evans, which allowed Beth Phoenix the chance to hit the Beth Valley Driver for the devastating win to the match!
