BETH PHOENIX vs. TRINITY
Some fans may talk long and hard about Punk, Albright, The Spirit Squad and the other men on the show, but there are some OVW fans who enjoy a good women match. The divas of OVW are some of the best wrestlers around - of either sex - and this match between Beth Phoenix had not only been weeks in coming, but proved once again that you should always keep an eye on the OVW divas when they get into the ring.
Getting right into the heat of things as the bell rang, Beth soon bailed with Trinity in pursuit, but it was only to set up an elbow-drop back in the ring when Trinity tried to re-enter. However, Trinity saw it coming and backed out, causing Beth to slam her elbow into the mat. Beth recovered by getting Trinity into a fireman’s carry, yet Trinity pulled herself down and rolled Beth up for a quick two-count that sent Beth out again. Back in, Beth hit a spear with the aim for a pinfall, but Trinity kept raising a shoulder just in time.
A clothesline and kick as well as a backdrop helped Trinity regain control, although Beth tried to fight back with a series of slaps. That only got her a slam to the mat by Trinity and Beth bailed again. This time, Trinity did not follow for a chase, but rather dove off a turnbuckle towards Phoenix. Beth avoided the splash attempt, sidestepping just in time for Trinity to crash-land flat on the floor from high above the ring!
With Beth looking like a cat who had just eaten the canary, Goose called for the OVW medic and others to come and check on Trinity at ringside. Brushing off the refs, Beth threw Trinity back into the ring and carried her up in a corner for a flying Samoan Driver off the second rope.
With Trinity in no shape to fight back, Beth lightly, mockingly “ladylike”, put her hands on Trinity’s stomach as Goose had no option but to count out the 1-2-3 and give the win to the firebird, Beth Phoenix.
